Copra surges on brisk stockists offtake

Copra prices rallied at the spices market here today on emergence of strong demand from stockists and bulk buyers in view of delay in new crop arrivals.

Copra Rajapur Mumbai shot up by Rs 200 per quintal to Rs 8,000 from Monday's closing level of Rs 7,800.

Copra office Alapuzha and copra edible Mumbai both spurted by Rs 150 per quintal to Rs 6,500 and Rs 7,500 as compared to Rs 6,350 and Rs 7,350 previously. 

Copra office Kozhikode also added another Rs 100 per quintal to Rs 6,400 from Rs 6,300 yesterday. Meanwhile, black pepper and ginger closed stable owing to lack of worthwhile buying.

Black pepper (per kg) 245/265 (245/265), ginger bleached (per kg) 163 (163), ginger unbleached (per kg) 193 (193), copra office Alapuzha (per quintal) 6,500 (6,350)
