Crude oil futures prices rose by 0.45% to Rs 5,409 per barrel today as speculators created fresh positions amid a firm trend in Asia.

At the Multi Commodity Exchange, crude oil for delivery in October gained Rs 24, or 0.45%, to Rs 5,409 per barrel, with a business turnover of 2,005 lots.

The September contract moved up by Rs 23, or 0.43%, to Rs 5,376 per barrel, with a business volume of 15,246 lots.

Marketmen said the rise in crude oil futures was on account of a firm trend in Asia.

Meanwhile, crude oil for October delivery advanced by 8 cents to $97.09 a barrel on the New York Mercantile Exchange.
