The government today appointed M Damodaran, an IAS officer of the 1971 batch, as the new chairman of Unit Trust of India.
Domodaran, 54, takes over from KG Vassal who was appointed as acting chairman after PS Subramanyam was asked to quit on July 4 in the wake of the US-64 crisis. He was an officer on special duty in Reserve Bank of India (RBI) handling the weak banks revival portfolio. He left Delhi today to take up his new assignment in Mumbai.
