Defence stocks in focus; Bharat Electronics, BEML gain 4%

Dynamatic Technologies, Astra Microwave, Pipavav Defence and Walchandnagar Industries up 2%-6% on the NSE.

Shares of defence equipment and manufacturers were in focus and rallied by up to 6% on reports that the government has sanctioned a Rs 5,113 crore project to develop a next-generation Airborne Warning and Control System (AWACS).

The Defence Acquisition Council (DAC), chaired by Defence Minister Manohar Parrikar, also approved the purchase of 1,512 mine ploughs for T90 tanks for Rs 710 crore and 30 weapon-locating radar for Rs 1,605 crore, a PTI report suggests. CLICK HERE TO READ FULL REPORT.

Shares of Bharat Electronics were up 4% at Rs 3,241 on the NSE. The stock hit a high of Rs 3,251 and has seen a combined 137,054 shares changing hands on counter on the NSE and BSE.

Dynamatic Technologies up 6% to Rs 3,979, after hitting high of Rs 4,026 in intra-day trade on the NSE. BEML up 4% at Rs 1,054,  followed by Astra Microwave Products (3% at Rs 137), Pipavav Defence and Offshore Engineering Company (2% at Rs 57.80) and Walchandnagar Industries (2% at Rs 181).
