The Dow and the S&P advanced on Thursday after a data on job market and regional manufacturing economy revived hopes that the recession hit economy is recovering.
The Dow Jones industrial average rose 58 points (0.69%) to 8,555. The Standard & Poor's 500 Index gained eight points (0.84%) to 918.37. The Nasdaq Composite Index was off just 0.34 of a point (0.02%) at 1,807.72.
MTNL tumbled 6.7% to $4.17.
Tata Communications and ICICI Bank slipped 3% each to $18.99 and $28.92, respectively.
Sterlite dropped 1% to $12.26.
Wipro and Patni Computers were down marginally at $11.47 and $10.13, respectively.
