Select edible oil prices hardened by Rs 20 per quintal on the wholesale oils and oilseeds market today on fresh buying by vanaspati millers on the back of a firm trend in Malaysia.
Linseed oil in the non-edible section, also showed some strength on the back of buying support from paint industries.
Trading sentiment on the domestic front turned better after prices of palm oil rose to the highest level in more than 33 months in Malaysia on concern that global supplies of cooking oils will shrink after rains disrupted harvests in Indonesia and Malaysia.
Meanwhile, palm oil futures for March-delivery advanced 1.6 per cent, to $1,256 a tonne on the Malaysia Derivatives Exchange counter, the highest level since March 2008.
Besides, fresh buying by vanaspati millers to meet the marriage season further influenced the trading sentiment, traders said.
Palmolein (rbd) and crude palm oil (ex-kandla) rose by Rs 20 each to Rs 6,220 and Rs 5,570, while soyabean refined mill delivery (Indore) and soyabean and Rs 6,070 per quintal.
In the non-edible section, linseed oil gained Rs 50 to Rs 4,550 per quintal on fresh enquiries from paint's industries.
