Select edible oil prices continued to rise in the wholesale oils and oilseeds market today on steady inflow of buying by millers and retailers, driven by festive and marriage season. Firming trend in global markets also influenced edible oil prices here.
Traders said besides increased buying by retailers and millers, reports of firming trend in the global markets also supported the rise in edible oil prices.
Meanwhile, palm oil for the January-delivery contract zoomed by 0.6 per cent to $966 a metric tonne on the Malaysia Derivatives Exchange, highest since July 31, 2008. It has gained 18 per cent during the eight-week rally.
In the national capital, groundnut mill delivery (Gujarat) traded Rs 30 higher at Rs 8780 per quintal. Groundnut solvent refined followed suit and gained Rs 10 at Rs 1,460-1,470 per tin of 15 litre.
Mustard expeller oil in line with general trend gained Rs 30 at Rs 5,420 per quintal. Palmolein (rbd) and crude palm oil (ex-kandla) remained firm on increased demand and up by Rs 30 and Rs 40 to Rs 5,200 and Rs 4,350 per quintal, respectively.
Soyabean refined mill delivery (indore) and soyabean degum gained Rs 30 each at Rs 5,300 and Rs 4,950 per quintal, respectively. In the non-edible section, castor and neem oils traded Rs 50 and Rs 20 higher at Rs 8,500-8,600 and Rs 3,720-3,820 per quintal, respectively.
