Edible oil prices strengthened by up to Rs 50 per quintal in the wholesale oils and oilseeds market today largely on the back of buying by vanaspati millers for the ongoing festive season amid a firming global trend.
However, non-edible oils moved in a tight range in restricted buying activity and settled around previous levels.
Trading sentiment in edible oils remained better as palm oil advanced in overseas markets after gains in soybeans, which are crushed to make a rival oil, and crude oil boosted the appeal of the tropical commodity used in food and fuels.
Meanwhile, palm oil futures for the October-delivery gained 0.4% to $1,036 a tonne on the Malaysia Derivatives Exchange.
In the national capital, soyabean refined mill delivery (Indore) and soyabean degum (Kandla) oils advanced by Rs 50 each to Rs 6,550 and Rs 6,000, respectively, while crude palm oil (ex-kandla) gained Rs 25 to Rs 5,250 per quintal.
Palmolein (rbd) and palmolein (Kandla) oils also moved up by Rs 25 each to Rs 5,900 and Rs 5,600 per quintal, respectively.
