Engineering Export Promotion Council (EEPC) has approached the Union ministry of commerce (MoC) for converting three locations into cluster towns to boost exports of select items. It would also make engineering goods more competitive in the domestic market.
In a recent meeting with senior MoC officials, EEPC requested that this status be awarded to Howrah in West Bengal for casting and forging items, Rajkot in Gujarat for diesel engines and Jalandhar and Ludhiana in Punjab for bi-cycle and hand tools.
