Exports of cashew products have come down drastically during April-July of the current financial year. During April-July, around 26,795 tonne of cashew-based products, valued at Rs 553.07 crore, were exported. But in the same period in the last financial year, exports were about 29,560 tonne valued at Rs 708.92 crore.
During July this year, 9,682 tonne cashew products were exported as compared to 8,160 tonne during the corresponding month last year. According to experts at the Cashew Export Promotion Council of India (CEPCI), the big reduction in the global price realisation is the major reason for setback on the exports front.
Due to the economic slow down world-over, the consumption of cashew-based products has dropped. Tough competition from countries like Brazil and Vietnam has also affected the cashew exports in the current year.
