Extraordinary start... Sensex zooms 11% at opening bell

As per the adjusted value on the BSE website, the Sensex is up 1,790 points (14.7%) at 13,963.

The market will re-open at 1155 hrs.

The Sensex opened with a huge gap of 1,306 points this morning following a near-clear mandate for UPA in the recently concluded Lok Sabha elections.

Hopes of a stable government at the Centre for the next five-years have boosted the sentiment.

The index is now up 1,306 points (10.7%) at 13,479. As the index is locked the at the 10% upper circuit, trading will now be suspended for the next one hour.

INDEX DAZZLERS...

Reliance Communications has zoomed nearly 20% to Rs 278, and Reliance Infrastructure has soared 19.5% to Rs 978.

Larsen & Toubro has rallied 19% to Rs 1,174. Jaiprakash Associates has surged 18% to Rs 166, and ICICI Bank has gained 17.5% at Rs 675.

BHEL, DLF, Sterlite and Hindalco have advanced 15-17% each.

Bhart Airtel, SBI, HDFC, TCS, Reliance, Tata Motors, Tata Steel, ONGC, Tata Power and ACC are up 10-15% each.
