The average trading volumes of foreign institutional investors (FIIs) has fallen by more than 46 per cent since May 2004. |
A look at the trading pattern in May and in June shows that against an average turnover (sales plus purchases) of Rs 1652.50 crore a day in May, FIIs' turnover for June thus far has been only Rs 878 crore. |
|
Both purchases and sales have been lower this month, on an average compared with the previous month. In the first week of June, turnover was above Rs 1,000 crore after which the volumes dipped to Rs 900 crore and then to Rs 700 crore and hit a low of Rs 660 crore on June 16. So far this month, FIIs have, however, been net buyers at Rs 645 crore. |

An institutional dealer dealing for FII clients said, "Foreign funds have lost interest in emerging markets per se with funds moving out of China and India to other markets such as Japan and the US. The China slowdown and political uncertainty in India has forced foreign investors to remain cautious over the last one month." |

Divyesh Shah, national sales head, Indiabulls said, "FIIs have adopted a wait and watch policy ahead of the budget." |
