The Sensex touched a high of 16,914 and is now exhibiting firm trend. The index is now at 16,897, up 125 points. The NSE Nifty is at 5,056, up 40 points.
Among the Sensex-30 stocks, Tata Power has soared 4% to Rs 1,322 and Jaiprakash Associates has added 3% at Rs 141, respectively.
Reliance Industries has advanced 3% to Rs 1,011. Hindustan Unilever, HDFC, DLF and Grasim Industries have increased 1.5% each.
ONGC and Maruti Industries have slipped 1.5% each to Rs 1,095 and Rs 1,468, respectively.
The other major losers were Larsen & Toubro, ITC and Wipro, down 0.5% each.
The market breadth is positive, out of 2,685 shares traded, 1,901 have advanced and 698 have declined so far on the BSE.
Among the sectoral indices, oil & gas, metal and realty index have added 1.5% each.
