Global coffee exports down 9% at 7.2 mn bags in Aug

World coffee exports declined nine% to 7.21 million bags of 60 kg each in August this year, according to International Coffee Organisation (ICO).

The global outbound shipments of the brew stood at 7.94 million bags in August 2010, as per ICO data.

On month-on-month basis international coffee exports fell two% to 7.21 million bags in August compared to 7.35 million bags in July.

However, in the first 11 months of the current coffee year (October 2010-September 2011), shipments rose almost 12% to 96.1 million bags compared to 86.0 million bags in the same period in the last coffee year.

"In the twelve months ending August 2011, exports of Arabica totalled 67.1 million bags compared to 60.8 million bags last year, whereas Robust exports amounted to 37.2 million bags compared to 32.4 million bags," ICO said.

On India's exports, it said the country shipped 3.85 lakh bags (about 23,100 tonnes) of coffee in August, as against Coffee Board's estimation of 23,146 tonnes.

In the 2009-10 coffee year, the commodity's global exports amounted to $15.4 billion.
