The world's total natural rubber output in 2010 will be higher by 6.6 per cent over last year despite production losses in the third quarter of current year due to adverse weather conditions, according to a trade body.
According to Association of Natural Rubber Producing Countries (ANRPC), "all rubber producing countries have reported an increase in production, except Thailand."
As per the data provided by ANRPC, the total production of natural rubber in the current year is estimated at 9.5 million tonnes against 8.92 million tonnes in 2009, thus registering an increase of 6.6 per cent.
Till October 2010, nine leading rubber producing countries had registered a growth of 9.4 per cent at 7.75 million tonnes as against 7.08 million tonnes in the corresponding period, an year ago.
However, during the October-December period, the production of natural rubber witnessed a decline due to excessive rain in all key growing areas.
The loss in production during the October-December period is responsible for the slow overall growth in rubber output in the current year, ANRPC said.
Rubber output in the fourth quarter declined by nearly 3.8 per cent.
ANRPC, an inter-governmental organisation established in 1970, has 11 countries as its members.
These 11 countries accounted for about 94 per cent of the global production of natural rubber during 2009.
