Gold prices today softened by Rs 35 to close at Rs 15,415 per 10 gram in the bullion market here on profit-selling by stockists amid reduced offtake.

Silver prices also dipped by Rs 100 to Rs 22,100 per kg due to poor demand.

Marketmen said selling by stockists at existing higher levels and fall in demand mainly pulled down gold prices.

Buying activity in gold was low as stockists and retailers refrained from enlarging their positions due to off-marriage season, they added.

Standard gold and ornaments fell by Rs 35 each to Rs 15,415 per 10 gram and Rs 15,265 per 10 gram, respectively, while sovereign remained flat at Rs 12,400 per piece of eight gram in limited deals.

Silver ready declined by Rs 100 to Rs 22,100 per kg and weekly-based delivery by Rs 30 to Rs 22,600 per kg.

Silver coins, however, remained steady at Rs 28,400 for buying and Rs 28,500 for selling of 100 pieces.
