Gold traded lower by 0.49 per cent in futures trade today as speculators reduced their positions taking cues from the weak global markets.
On the Multi Commodity Exchange, gold for the June-month contract softened by 0.49 per cent to Rs 14,071 per 10 gram with trading of 1,659 lots, while far-month August contract shed 0.48 per cent to Rs 14,072 per 10 gram, in 187 lots.
Market experts said sustained selling by traders and speculators in line with weakening trend in global markets mainly led to fall in gold prices.
Globally, gold traded lower at $874.50 an ounce as stronger dollar put pressure on the yellow metal.
