Gold, silver edge higher on stray buying

Gold prices moved up slightly in an otherwise lacklustre bullion market here today due to mild retail as well as jewellery offtake, amid firm overseas advices.  

Silver also looked up on renewed industrial support.

Standard gold (99.5 per cent purity) edged up by Rs 5 per 10 grams to close at Rs 20,065 from last weekend closing level of Rs 20,060.

Pure gold (99.9 per cent purity) also gained by a similar margin to Rs 20,165 per 10 grams as against Rs 20,160 previously.

Silver ready (.999 fineness) ended higher at Rs 43,445 per kilo from Rs 43,435 last Saturday.

In Europe, spot gold was bid at $1,347.90 an ounce in early trade as compared $1,342.25 late in New York on Friday.

Silver was bid at $27.55 an ounce from $27.47 previously.
