Prices of basmati and non-basmati rice and jowar ended the week with moderate gains on wholesale grain markets as demand revived amidst restricted arrivals.
Traders said increased buying by local stockists pushed up prices of rice basmati (common) and non-basmati rice. Basmati common was up by Rs 50-100 at Rs 3750-3850 per quintal. Permal raw (non-basmati rice) also finished Rs 25 higher at Rs 850-865 per quintal on steady buying.

Prices of jowar (yellow) and jowar (white) looked up to Rs 610-620 and Rs 700-740 per quintal on fresh enquiries. However, bajra prices drifted on selling and shed Rs 5 at Rs 595-600 a quintal. Prices of select pulses improved further on back of strong advices from producing regions and steady demand.
Prices of other commodities continued to move in a limited range on scattered deals and ended flat. Traders attributed rise in prices of select pulses to higher producing region advices. Larger offtake by retailers nudged up prices too.
Urad (MP) quoted higher at Rs 1150-1560 per quintal against the last close of Rs 1100-1525. Urad (Rangoon) improved to Rs 1450-1475 per quintal from Rs 1440-1445. Arhar (UP, Rajasthan) prices looked up from Rs 1650-1700 to Rs 1675-1825 per quintal largely on increased demand. Moong (Maharashtra) and urad (Rajasthan) were unaltered at Rs 1250-2325 and Rs 2275-2600 per quintal respectively.
Gram and gramdal also remained unchanged at Rs 1525-1520 and Rs 1620-1670 per quintal respectively.
Groundnut mill delivery and some other edible oil prices declined marginally in wholesale oils and oilseeds market owing to lower buying by millers and increased arrivals. However, sesame mill delivery and mustard expeller oils were in demand.
Marketmen said lack of necessary buying support from millers and retailers pulled select edible oil prices down. Groundnut mill delivery oil weakened owing to lack of follow-up support, falling by Rs 100 to Rs 5,500 per quintal.
Crude palm oil (ex-Kandla) quoted Rs 20 lower at Rs 3,540 per quintal and palm olien (RBD) fell by Rs 10 at Rs 4140 per quintal. Sesame mill delivery oil, on the other side, attracted local buying to close Rs 100 higher at Rs 4700 a quintal while mustard expeller was up Rs 30 at Rs 4250 per quintal. Cottonseed mill delivery oil ruled flat at Rs 4200 per quintal.
Millgate sugar prices declined as offtake fell and huge stocks stagnated. However, duty paid shamali prices recovered slightly on increased offtake.
Marketmen said large stocks and lack of buying support from millers brought down millgate prices. Sakoti remained weak at Rs 1095 from Rs 1093. Bijnor and amroha traded lower at Rs 1080 each per quintal respectively on selling pressure from millers. Mozilpur slipped from Rs 1095 to Rs 1085 a quintal. Only duty paid shamali recovered from Rs 1200 to Rs 1208 a quintal.
Gur raskat and chakku prices declined owing to increased arrivals while demand fell. Traders said negligible enquiries from stockists already saddled with large stocks pulled down gur raskat and chakku from Rs 575-620 and Rs 775-825 to Rs 570-620 and Rs 770-820 per quintal respectively.
