Hindalco GDRs up 3.28%

The Instanex Skindia DR Index (ISDI) was up 0.32 per cent to 1,090.68 on January 19 in early morning trades in the western markets. Among ISDI global depository receipts (GDRs), six advanced and one lost ground.
 
The gainers were Hindalco up 3.28 per cent to $31.50 registering volume of 25,000 GDRs, Reliance up 1.61 per cent to $31.50 registering volume of 111,500 GDRs and State Bank of India up 1.23 per cent to $41.00 registering volume of 1,300 GDRs. The only loser was Bajaj Auto down 0.21 per cent to $23.45 on volumes of 4,900 GDRs.
 
On the previous day, the ISDI, which represents the ADRs and GDRs of 15 actively-traded companies, closed down 1.21 per cent to 1,082.88 and was trading at a price to earnings multiple of 20.79 (down by 1.23 per cent).
 
Among the ISDI ADR stocks, two advanced and six lost ground. Among the ISDI ADRs and GDRs, there were eleven losers and four gainers.
 
The gainers were ICICI Bank, up 5.06 per cent to $16.00, registering volumes of 1,454,900 ADRs and Wipro up 3.55 per cent to $50.43 registering volumes of 98,600 ADRs.
 
The major losers were Satyam Computer, closing down 5.70 per cent to $23.31 registering volumes of 1,374,100 ADRs, followed by VSNL down 3.97 per cent to $7.49 with volumes of 162,400 ADRs and HDFC Bank down 3.67 per cent to $31.99 with volumes of 63,500 ADRs.
 
The GDR of ITC firmed up to $26.75 from $25.90, previously. However, the GDRs of Hindalco and Larsen & Toubro dropped to $30.13 and $23.41, respectively, as against $32.45 and $25.00, previously.
 
Meanwhile, elsewhere in the world, Asian stocks rose on Monday as tech shares followed in the wake of a tech rally in the US markets. The London FTSE is expected to be flat while the German DAX and French CAC-40 might open marginally higher.
 
Japan's Nikkei rose 1.65 per cent to close at a three-month high at 11,036.33 as investors snapped up electronics shares.
 
Shares in South Korea rose one per cent, shares in Australia rose 0.4 per cent, while Singapore was up 0.5 per cent. Hong Kong shares were flat in a holiday-shortened week.
