How changes in FPI shareholding swayed stock prices in March quarter

594 companies in which FPIs hiked their stake saw an average stock price increase of 2.3%, while 689 firms in which they decreased their stake saw an average price decline of 2.7%

The change in shareholding pattern of foreign portfolio investors (FPIs) influenced stock prices during the quarter ended March 2022. Sample this: 594 companies where they increased their stake saw an average stock price increase of 2.3 per cent, while 689 companies where they decreased their stake saw an average price decline of 2.7 per cent. On the other hand, domestic institutional investors (DIIs) increased their stake in 462 companies, which saw average price declines of 2.1 per cent.  About 446 companies, where they reduced their stake, saw share price decline of 3.8 per cent. Interestingly, shares where retail investors increased their wager headed south and those where they cut their holdings soared. Small investors hiked their stake in 994 companies, which saw an average stock price decline of 7 per cent. They pruned their stakes in 699 companies, whose stock prices rose an average 8.8 per cent
