Foreign institutional investors (FIIs) have turned net sellers in the debt markets in seven of the 12 trading days of September.
During the last three trading days between September 17-19, the FIIs net sales aggregated a hefty Rs 303.60 crore.
On September 19, FIIs net sales stood at Rs 276.30 crore ($53 million).

The FIIs sales in the debt markets till September 19 aggregated Rs 550.80 crore against which their purchases of Rs 393.20 crore. Thus, the FIIs net sales so far has been at Rs 157.60 crore.
The current month is not an isolated case for the FIIs being net sellers in debt markets. In the current calendar year, FIIs were net sellers in four out of nine months. The FIIs, however, have net purchaser so far (January-September) to the tune of Rs 31.20 crore.
In 2000, the FIIs net purchase of debt was at Rs 140.9 crore. In 1999, they were net purchasers of Rs 118.80 crore.
In March 2001, the FIIs were net sellers to the extent of Rs 207.30 crore.
In April, the FIIs become net purchasers for Rs 208.90 crore but sold heavily in May at Rs 369.40 crore.
In June the FIIs were net purchasers of Rs 464.40 crore worth of debt and again in July, they were net sellers at Rs 244.80 crore.
