Include ethanol under CST: Sector

The sugar industry has urged the government to amend the list of goods under the Central Sales Tax, 1956, to include ethanol, a senior industry official said.

"We want the Centre to include ethanol in the list of goods of national importance, which falls under the Central Sales Tax alone," S L Jain, director-general, Indian Sugar Mills Association, said.

He said, once under the list, ethanol would be removed from the purview of state governments and they will not be able to levy any taxes currently prevalent across the country.
