Indices log gains in tandem

With no bad news and strong global markets, domestic bourses on Thursday witnessed a smart recovery. The Capital Goods index, the biggest gainer on Thursday, moved up by as much as 10.3 per cent.
 
The BSE IT index spurted 7.92 per cent. The Teck index rose 7.6 per cent. The Metal and Auto indices gained 7 per cent each while the FMCG and Consumer Durables indices surged 6.39 per cent and 6.42 per cent, respectively.
 
The Bankex closed stronger by 5.87 per cent while the PSU index rose 6 per cent. Healthcare and Oil & Gas indices climbed up 4.93 per cent and 4.77 per cent, respectively.
 
None of the Sensex stocks closed in the red. BHEL was the biggest gainer among them. The PSU power equipment maker, which vaulted to an intra-day high of Rs 1,859.85, ended at Rs 1,836.95 with a sparkling gain of 14.5 per cent.
 
Bajaj Auto rose sharply with 14 per cent gain at Rs 2,600. Grasim Industries moved up by 13.8 per cent to Rs 1,814.20.
 
Larsen & Toubro, which reported about bagging a big order, jumped 11.4 per cent to Rs 2,041.10. Infosys Technologies notched up 9.9 per cent to Rs 2,728.25.
 
Hero Honda rose 9.2 per cent to Rs 702.65. Hindustan Lever went up 8.7 per cent to Rs 202.3. HDFC Bank notched up 8.5 per cent to Rs 696.25. Gujarat Ambuja Cements jumped eight per cent to Rs 91.50.
 
Wipro (Rs 420.50), Tata Steel (Rs 413.70), Satyam Computer (Rs 616.10), HDFC (Rs 1064.15), ICICI Bank (Rs 485.05), Hindalco (Rs 152.45), ACC (Rs 736.45), Reliance Communications Ventures (Rs 214.30), ITC (Rs 155.60), Tata Motors (Rs 694.65), Cipla (Rs 202.10) and Bharti Televentures (Rs 343.60) moved up by 5 "� 7.7 per cent.
 
The market breadth kept improving significantly as the session progressed. When trading ended for the day, out of 2,427 stocks traded on BSE, as many as 1,693 stocks had moved up into the positive territory. 691 stocks closed in the red while 43 stocks finished unchanged from their previous closing levels.
