Institutional Holding In Satyam Up 2.65%

Institutional investors have increased their holding in Satyam Computer Services by 2.65 per cent to 49.45 per cent over the quarter ended September 30.

Institutions had brought down their stake in Satyam during March-June to 49.45 per cent from 52.89 per cent, while during March-September also their stake in the company has dipped.

Among institutional investors, foreign institutional investors' (FIIs) stake has increased the most -- from 32.59 per cent as on June 30 to 35.63 per cent on September 30.

The present shareholding pattern of Satyam is: Indian promoters 22.78 per cent, institutional investors 49.45 per cent, private corporate bodies 2.74 per cent, non-resident Indian's/overseas commercial bodies 1.63 per cent, public 12.8 per cent and American depositary share holders 10.6 per cent.

According to analysts, the domestic infotech sector seemed to be strengthening once again and stock exchanges across the world were expecting increased participation from these companies in their respective markets.

"Institutional investors continue to look optimistically at the information technology sector and have pegged growth for the segment between 20-30 per cent next year," said an analyst.

In Infosys Technologies, FII holding has increased by almost 6 per cent from 28.89 per cent in March to 34.61 per cent in September. Institutional investors' share (which include mutual funds, banks, financial institutions, insurance companies, FIIs) has increased marginally from 43.33 per cent to 44.71 per cent over the last two quarters.

Institutional investors' share in Wipro has jumped marginally from 2.89 per cent in March to 3.58 per cent in September.

Analysts said most of the technology stocks, especially Satyam, have witnessed huge traded volumes on the Bombay Stock Exchange (BSE) and the National Stock Exchange (NSE) over the last two months.

"It is likely that institutional holding in these companies would appreciate further by the end of the present quarter," said an analyst tracking the company.

Satyam's volumes on BSE and NSE today stood at 59,79,356 and 1,25,38,538, respectively, while Infosys' volumes were at 2,96,080 on BSE and 5,56,436 on NSE. Wipro's volumes were also significant at 7,38,909 on BSE and 12,71,665 on NSE.

Share prices of all these scrips, however, took a dip today with Satyam closing at Rs 266.80 (BSE) and Rs 265.50 (NSE), Infosys at Rs 4,398.35 (BSE) and Rs 4,385 (NSE), Wipro at Rs 1,720.35 (BSE) and Rs 1,704 (NSE).
