Selling in the IT scrips have pulled the markets deeper into the red. The Sensex is now at 16,919, down 81 points and the NSE Nifty is at 5,057, down 30 points.
The BSE midcap and the small cap indices have added 0.5% each.
Jaiprakash Associates, Infosys and Mahindra & Mahindra have declined around 2% each to Rs 143, Rs 2,615 and Rs 1,060, respectively.
Mahindra & Mahindra, ICICI Bank, Wipro, Maruti and TCS were the other major losers on the Sensex, down 1% each.
On the gaining side, scrips like DLF, Reliance Communications and Hindustan Unilever have advanced 2% each to Rs 304, Rs 164 and Rs 242, respectively on the BSE.
Reliance Infrastructure, SBI, Sun PharmA and Grasim Industries have added 1% each on the Sensex.
The market breadth however is fairly positive, out of 2,754 shares traded, 1,432 have advanced and 1,227 have declined so far on the BSE.
Among the sectoral indices, realty index has gained 2% at 3,376 while the IT index has dropped 1%, respectively.
Moser Baer is the major gainer, up 6% at Rs 83. Infosys, Wipro and TCS on the other hand have slipped 1% each on the IT index.
