Jeera prices fell by Rs 55, or 0.37 per cent, to Rs 14,792.50 per quintal in futures trading today after participants preferred to book profits.

However, firm spot demand amid reports of slow progress sowing in top producing state, Gujarat, limited the losses.

At the National Commodity and Derivatives Exchange, jeera for delivery in December fell by Rs 55, or 0.37 per cent, to Rs 14,792.50 per quintal, with an open interest of 14,823 lots.

March jeera traded lower by Rs 30, or 0.19 per cent, to Rs 15,635 per quintal, with an open interest of 5,796 lots.

Analysts said profit-taking by speculators mainly led to a decline in jeera prices at futures trade but domestic and export demand and slow progress of slowing, avoided any major fall in prices.
