Jeera futures prices fell by Rs 63 to Rs 13,200 per quintal today, extending yesterday's losses, on continued off-loading of positions by speculators and hopes of rise in acreage in the upcoming season.
Besides, weak export demand also weighed on the jeera futures prices here.
At the National Commodity and Derivatives Exchange counter, jeera for January contract fell by Rs 63, or 0.48 per cent, to Rs 13,200 per quintal, with a turnover of 6,756 lots.
In a likewise fashion, the spice for delivery in October-month also shed Rs 15, or 0.12 per cent, to Rs 12,791 per quintal, with a turnover of 141 lots.
Analysts said off-loading of positions by speculators on expectations of a rise in acreage in the upcoming season following favourable rains and fall in exports demand kept pressure on the jeera futures.
Meanwhile, jeera exports in April-August 2010, fell 23 per cent to 15,500 tonnes from the same period a year ago.
