Jeera futures prices fell sharply by Rs 273 to Rs 14,740 per quintal today as speculators indulged in profit-booking amid sluggish demand.

Jeera for March contract delivery slid by Rs 309, or 2.02 per cent, to Rs 14,975 per quintal at the National Commodity and Derivatives Exchange, with an open interest in 1,008 lots.

Similarly, the spice for February delivery declined by Rs 273, or 1.82 per cent, to Rs 14,740 per quintal, with an open interest in 14,001 lots. Furthermore, jeera for January contract delivery lost Rs 246, or 1.67 per cent, to Rs 14,480 per quintal, with an open interest in 10,674 lots.

Analysts said profit-booking by speculators at prevailing higher levels and slackened demand in the spot market mainly pulled down jeera futures prices.
