Jeera prices rose by Rs 107.50 to Rs 14,750 per quintal in futures trade today as speculators created fresh positions, tracking a firm trend at spot market on pick up in demand in view of festive season.

However, higher supplies in the spot market, capped the gains.

At the National Commodity and Derivatives Exchange, the December contract for jeera rose by Rs 107.50, or 0.73 per cent, to Rs 14,750 per quintal, with an open interest of 16,101 lots.

Similarly, the spice for delivery in November moved up by Rs 100, or 0.71 per cent, to Rs 14,175 per quintal in 7,956 lots.

Market analysts said fresh positions created by speculators on the back of a rise in demand in the spot market due to festive season mainly pushed up jeera prices at futures trade.
