Jeera prices rose by Rs 255 to Rs 14,300 per quintal in futures trade today as speculators enlarged their positions, tracking a firm trend in the spot markets on pick up in demand.

Good rains in key growing areas raised hopes of higher production and weighed on prices.

At the National Commodity and Derivatives Exchange, jeera for delivery in September moved up by Rs 255, or 1.82%, to Rs 14,300 per quintal, with an open interest of 975 lots.

October jeera traded higher by Rs 45, or 0.31%, to Rs 14,355 per quintal, with an open interest of 21,699 lots.

Marketmen said increased buying by speculators on the back of a rise in spot market demand helped jeera futures to trade higher.
