Jeera prices rose by Rs 160 to Rs 12,082.50 per quintal in futures trading today as speculators enlarged their positions, driven by rising spot market demand.

However, increased arrivals from producing regions in the physical market restricted the gains.

At the National Commodity and Derivatives Exchange, the May contract rose by Rs 160, or 1.34%, to Rs 12,082.50 per quintal, with an open interest of 13,089 lots.

The April contract moved up by Rs 150, or 1.29%, to Rs 11,770 per quintal, with an open interest of 11,913 lots.

Analysts said a firming trend at the spot markets following pick-up in demand in the spot market mainly pushed up jeera prices at futures trade.
