The Kanpur Commodity Exchange (KCE) has set a target of Rs 6,000 crore of transactions for 2006-07. If achieved, this will be a major jump from Rs 4,400 crore, the KCE's target in 2005-06. |
President Santosh Kumar Agarwal said in his presidential message to the shareholders, contained in the annual report, till date, the main source of income for the exchange was the interest from deposits in the bank. But now for the first time, in the last financial year, the main source of income was transaction fee, brokerage, etc. he said. |
The above two indices show that the exchange's troubles are over. KCE has taken huge steps to improve its infrastructure. It has installed radio frequency tower, and as a fallback alternative there is BSNL lease line. This has made trading extremely economical for the traders. |
The KCE is a member of both Multi Commodity & Exchange (MCX) and National Commodity & Derivatives Exchange (NCDEX). |
Members participate in it through internet. The main commodities traded in both the exchanges are gold, silver, refined soyaoil, urad, mustard oil and seed, chana, crude oil, mentha oil, turmeric, red chilli, blackpepper, etc. |
Till date, its active members are about 65. Till the membership reaches 70, the entry fee will be Rs 69,600 and once it crosses 70, the entry fees will be Rs 1,19,600. The number of total members is about 520. |
Gross income during the last fiscal has more then doubled to Rs 52.51 lakh (as against Rs 20.21 lakh in 2004-05) of which brokerage amounted to Rs 37.73 lakh (Rs 4.38 lakh in 2004-05). The balance after depreciation is Rs 9.76 lakh compared to last year's Rs 86,599. |
Adding previous years profits, the balance carried is Rs 12.11 lakh. But there is no delivery in the whole exchange, although MCX and NCDEX both have their warehouses and they can organise delivery from their warehouses. |
But most brokers are doing futures by hedging and none has ever asked for delivery. In international trading, crude oil, natural gas, gold and silver are the main commodities which are being traded. |
