The Sensex touched a low of 8,978, and is now flat again at 9,020 - up five points. Earlier, the index touched a high of 9,112 in opening trades.
Wipro has surged 3.7% to Rs 217. Grasim and Mahindra & Mahindra have rallied 3% each to Rs 1,382 and Rs 293, respectively.
HDFC has advanced 2.3% to Rs 1,396, and Maruti has added 2% to Rs 630.
Ranbaxy and NTPC are up 1% each at Rs 207 and Rs 178, respectively.
Hindustan Unilever has dropped 2% to Rs 249. Larsen & Toubro has shed 1.5% at Rs 644, and Hindalco is down 1% at Rs 41.
The market breadth is margially positive - out of 2,173 stocks traded so far, 1,060 advanced, 1,009 declined and the rest are unchanged.
