Lead prices declined by 0.71 per cent to Rs 118.55 per kg in futures trade today as speculators offloaded their positions amid a weak overseas trend.

At the Multi Commodity Exchange, lead for delivery in the month of May declined by 85 paise, or 0.71 per cent to Rs 118.55 per kg in a single lot.

Likewise, the metal for delivery in March contract traded lower by paise 65, or 0.55 per cent to Rs 118.15 per kg with business turnover of 7 lots.

Market analysts said a weak trend in the entire base metals pack overseas on concern that escalating conflict in Libya will further boost energy prices, which will weigh heavy on the growth and will erode the metal's demand.

At the London Metal Exchange, lead declined by 0.8 per cent to $2,608 a tonne.
