Lead prices zoomed by Rs 2.05, or 2.57 per cent, to Rs 81.75 per kg in futures trade today on firm global trend.

At the Multi Commodity Exchange, lead for delivery in June contract rose by Rs 2.05, or 2.57 per cent, to Rs 81.75 per kg with an open interest of 7,173 lots. The metal for delivery in July contract also moved up by Rs 2, or 2.48 per cent, to Rs 82.80 per kg in 1,597 lots.

Marketmen said fresh buying by traders on pick up in demand at spot markets amid firming trend at London Metal Exchange mainly led to the rise in lead prices at futures trade.

Increased offtake from car battery makers also supported the uptrend, they said. Meanwhile, lead advanced 2.6 per cent to $1,790.75 per tonne on the London Metal Exchange.
