Shares of Lupin were trading higher by 2% to Rs 1,768 on the BSE in an otherwise weak market after the stock exchange said that drug-maker will replace private sector electricity producer Tata Power on the benchmark Sensex from June 22.
The stock opened at Rs 1,750 and touched a high of Rs 1,774 so far. A combined 443,643 shares changed hands on the counter on the BSE and NSE till 0957 hours. The S&P BSE Sensex was down 128 points or 27,830.
Lupin has outperformed the market by surging 8.6% from its recent low of Rs 1,633 on May14, despite reporting disappointing set of numbers for the quarter ended March 2015. The S&P BSE Sensex gained 2.3% during the same period.
Meanwhile, shares of Tata Power were down 1% at Rs 75 on the BSE.
