Making hay in the rally

Markets have been on a roll for quite some time now, and same is reflected in the S&P CNX 500 index, which, has appreciated by 1.9 per cent in the last five trading days. In the process, the Smart Portfolios benchmark net worth increased by Rs 19,000 to Rs 10.16 lakh.

Vinay Khattar and Shishir Bajpai, the two most active fund managers, continued to outperform the benchmark by a wide margin. In the week under review, each of them posted net returns in excess of 3 per cent each. Ajay Parmar registered a gain of 1.6 per cent.

SHISHIR BAJPAI, SENIOR VICE PRESIDENT, IIFL PRIVATE WEALTH
Shishir Bajpai continues to remain fully invested, despite active churning week-after-week. In the week under review, he booked smart gains on his investment in Castrol India, Prime Focus, Suzlon, Bhagyanagar India and V-Guard. While Bajpai has re-entered Suzlon, his other fresh investments are Reliance Broadcast, SKS Microfinance, Delta Corp and Jai Balaji. Bajpai has 13 stocks in his portfolio, of which just three are trading below his cost price. His net worth has appreciated by nearly 40 per cent to Rs 13.98 lakh.

Vinay Khattar has executed 36 trades, 14 on the buy side. His gross buying stood at Rs 10.75 lakh, while gross sales totalled Rs 13.19 lakh. His prominent fresh buys are Muthoot Finance, Delta Corp, Atul, Bhushan Steel, Lovable Lingerie, C Mahendra Exports and Wockhardt. On the sell side, he locked significant gains Pidilite, V-Guard, Yes Bank, Shree Renuka Sugars, BGR Energy, VIP Industries, Subex, Raymond and TTK Prestige. Khattar currently holds 11 stocks, of which four are trading below his cost price. His portfolio value has soared over 33 per cent to Rs 13.32 lakh, and he now holds Rs 2.44 lakh cash.

AJAY PARMAR, HEAD RESEARCH INSTITUTIONAL EQUITIES, EMKAY
Ajay Parmar continued to remain on the sidelines, and his net worth is up 2.7 per cent at Rs 10.27 lakh. A majority - 12 off the 19 - stocks in his portfolio continue to languish below his acquisition price. At the same time, few of Parmar’s pick like eClerx Services, Jubilant Foodworks, Lovable Lingerie and Insecticides have given superb returns in excess of 45 per cent each. Parmar cash levels stand at Rs 1.12 lakh.
