After a listless opening, the markets have moved upward to touch an intra-day high of 19,908. The Sensex is at 19,224, up 63 points while the Nifty has added 12 points and is at 5,972. The smallcap index had raced ahead and is up 0.7% as compared to the midcap index at 0.5% and the benchmark index underperforming at 0.2%.
In the smallcap space, 403 scrips have moved up while 103 scrips have declined. The movers here are PNB Gilts up nearly 11%, Kanani Industries, Gati and Modern India gaining 8% each. In the midcap index, 203 scrips have moved north and 64 scrips moved south. Manappuram General Finance up 6% followed by JM Financial, JSL Stainless gaining nearly 5% are the top gainers in this space.
On the BSE sectoral indices, there are no changes at the top. FMCG continues to lead at 1.7% followed by Consumer Durables, Realty and Teck which opened in the red. Bankex index continues to languis at the bottom in the red at 0.1%. The draggers in the Bankex space are Indusind Bank down 1%, Axis Bank and Bank of India losing 0.6%
The losers inthe Sensex-30 stocks are Jindal Steel, Sterlite down nearly 1%, HDFC, NTPC and Mahindra & Mahindra shedding 0.5% each.
Hindustan Unilever, Bharti Airtel, Reliance Communications up 3% are the top gainers on the Sensex. ITC,ONGC, DLF and Tata Steel follows.
Market breadth is positive. 1819 stocks have davanced while 708 have declined.
