Market Cap Rebounds, Gains Rs 58,495 Crore

The market capitalisation of actively traded stocks has increased by Rs 58,495 crore in the last 17 trading sessions. With this, the BSE sensex and the market capitalisation of BSE traded stocks almost pulled back to the levels of September 12, 2001, the day the sensex crashed by 117 points in the wake of the terrorist attacks in the US.

The sensex bounced back to close at 3042.85 yesterday, for the first time after September 12, 2001, when the sensex closed at 3032.71. The sensex has gained 17 per cent since the nine-year low of Septem- ber 21. Consequently, the market capitalisation of traded stocks has recovered by 13.9 per cent.

The software sector recorded a smart 30.3 per cent (Rs 15,712 crore) recovery in market capitalisation, followed by the petrochemical sector, which gained 30.3 per cent (Rs 7,442 crore).
