The markets have gone nowhere in the past couple of hours, as if gripped by a state of slumber. The Sensex is quoting at 17756, higher by 62 points and the Nifty is at 5325, up 22 points. The mid-cap and smallcap indices have added about a per cent each at 7167 and 9248 respectively.
Sterlite has gained 6% at Rs 843 after its Q4 results surpassed market expectations. Moreover, the metal major has declared a 1:1 bonus. HDFC has strengthened by 3.5% at Rs 2817 and Hindalco has added 3.2% at Rs 184.
Sun Pharma remains the top loser on the Sensex. The pharma company is trading at Rs 1600, lower by 4.9%. DLF has weakened by 2.8% at Rs 322 and RIL continues to languish at Rs 1070, down 1.6%.
The market breadth is positive. Out of 2934 stocks traded on the BSE, there are 1636 advancing stocks as against 1206 declines.
