After a quiet start, the indices moved upwards to an intra-day high of 18,312. However, the Sensex quickly lost steam and slipped to register an intra-day low of 18,250 and is currently at 18247, down 63 points, and the Nifty is 5486, down 18 points.
The smallcap index has pared its initial gains and is down 0.2%, while the midcap and benchmark indices are down 0.3%. The movers in the smallcap space are Hinduja Ventures, up 11%, followed by Mukand, ETC Networks and Rollataines Gining, up 5% each. In the midcap space, the propellers are State Bank of Mysore, adding 7%, Bajaj Electricals gaining 4% and Akzo India up 3%.
On the BSE sectoral indices, IT has extended its gains and is up 0.5%. FMCG remains stable at 0.2% while Power has broken into the green and is up 0.06%. Oil & Gas the initial gainer has slipped into the red and is down 0.1%. The movers in the IT space are
Mphasis up 2%, followed by TCS gaining nearly 1% and Infosys adding 0.5%.
The gainers on the Sensex are Hindustan Unilever up 1% followed by TCS, ACC,Infosys gaining 0.5-0.9%
The losers are Tata Steel,Hindalco and Bharti Airtel down 2% each.Tata Motors, DLF and Maruti Suzuki are the other prominent losers.
