Markets back in the green

The Indian markets have opened in the positive, in line with their global peers. The Sensex is quoting at 17515, higher by 104 points and the Nifty is at 5241, up 31 points in opening trades.

The US markets ended in the green, with the Dow adding 44 points and Nasdaq advancing by 21 points.

Asian markets are also trading higher; Hang Seng has surged 230 points and the Taiwan index has added 23 points.

The leading gainers on the Sensex are Reliance Communications (strengthened by 1.2% at Rs 172), Sterlite (appreciated by 1.2% at Rs 822) and Jaiprakash Associates (added 1.1% at Rs 148). Bharti Airtel, HDFC Bank and Tata Steel are the other notable gainers.

The realty sector, which was battered by 3% on the previous day, is the top sectoral gainer on the BSE in this morning's trades. The sector as a whole is up more than 1%, with stocks such as DLF, Unitech and HDIL seeing buying action at lower levels.  

And index heavyweight, Reliance Industries has added 0.4% at Rs 1079.

There are only two losers among the Sensex losers. ACC has weakened by 0.5% at Rs 964 and ITC has shed 0.4% at Rs 259.

The market breadth is strong. Out of 1671 stocks traded on the BSE, there are 1256 advancing stocks as against 380 declines.
