The markets were seen consolidating their gains in the late mrning session, with the Sensex at 18,198 up 154 points, and the Nifty up 43 points at 5,455.
Top gainers on the Nifty were Reliance Power at Rs 115, followed by Hindalco at Rs 194 and ICICI Bank at Rs 1,063, all up 4%. IDFC, Reliance Communications and JP Associates advanced 3% each.
On the losers front, Tata Motors plunged 6% to Rs 1,095 after reporting a 14% y-o-y growth in its consolidated net profit at Rs 2,556 crore in Q4FY11. The automobile maker reported its lowest ever net profit growth in the last four quarters. Ambuja Cement at Rs 136, GAIL at Rs 434 and Hindustan Unilever at Rs 303 slipped 2% each.
In the Mid-cap space, the Nifty Mid-cap 50 added 1% at 2,421. Top gainers were HCC at Rs 31 up 4%, Sintex at Rs 169, Allahbad Bank at Rs 193 and Vijaya Bank at Rs 67, all up 4%.
Banking stocks were terading firm, and the Bank Nifty climbed nearly 2% at 10,647. The CNX Realty index advanced 1.3% to 269, while the CNX Infra counter moved up 0.9% to 2,924 and the CNX IT index gained 0.4% at 6,480.
