Markets crack in late-noon trades

A sudden bout of volatility has seen the markets dropping sharply in late-noon trades. The Sensex is now down 74 points at 19,927. Nifty is down 22 points at 5,990.

The markets have recovered from the lows of the day. The Sensex is at 20,110 up 104 points and Nifty is up 34 points at 6047.

The European markets are also trading higher french CAC is up 18 points at 3834 and FTSE is at 5686 up 40 poinmts. Among the Asian markets, Taiwan ended the day by gaining 63 points to end at 8354, Hang Seng is also trading higher by 46 points at 23,210, however Nikkei ended the day in the red down 21 points at 9366.

Back home, Bharti Airtel continues to lead the Sensex gainers charts, up 3.6% at Rs 333, followed by HDFC, Hero Honda, HDFC Bank, Hindustan Unilever and ONGC. Meanwhle DLF , J P Associates, BHEL, Hindalco Industries and Sterlite Industries are among the losers on the Sensex.

Teck index is the top sectoral gainer, the index is up 1.25% or 46 points at 3753 followed by, IT, FMCG, Oil & Gas and Bankex indices up more than 0.7% each.

Realty, Metal, Consumer Durables and Power indices continue to trade in the negative zone.

Market breadth is marginally negative as 1471 stocks are declining and 1446 stocks are advancing.
