The markets have extended further gains owing to persistent strength in the IT stocks. The Sensex is now at 17, 310, up 245 points and the NSE Nifty is at 5,190, up 70 points.

The Sensex after paring gains has managed to re-gain its upward momentum back. The index is now firm at 17,252, up 188 points and the NSE Nifty is at 5,172, up 53 points.
Among the Sensex-30 stocks, Wipro and Infosys have added 3% each at Rs 667 and Rs 2,712, respectively.
The other major gainers are Reliance Communications, Reliance Infrastructure and Tata Steel, up over 2% each. Hindalco Industries, Sterlite and HDFC are among some of the other prominent gainers, up over 1.5% each.
On the other hand, Bharti Airtel continues to be the major loser on the BSE, down 2.5% at Rs 267.
The market breadth is positive, out of 2,889 shares traded, 1,772 have advanced and 1,039 have declined so far on the BSE.
The BSE midcap and the smallcap indices have added over 0.5% each.
Among the sectoral indices, IT index is up 2.5% at 5,295. HCL Tech and Mphasis have added 3.5% each on the index.
Bayer Crop has zoomed 7% to Rs 792 on the midcap index. Balaji Telefilms has surged 17% to Rs 57.
