Markets have a good opening

The Indian markets openend on a positive note building on the previous day's closing. The Sensex opened at 19,377, up 36 points while the Nifty added 21 points at 5,816.

In the international front, US stocks were little changed after promising data from the retail sector fed recent optimism that the economic recovery, while slow, is proceeding.The Dow Jones dropped 18 points, or 0.17 % to 10,526.The Nasdaq Composite Index gained 4 points, or 0.18 % to 2,290. The Asian markets however,are mixed this morning but the Japanese markets have surged.Nikkei has gained 1.8% at 9,470. Hang Seng, however, is soft at 21,677.

Among the sectoral indices on the BSE, Consumer Durables is up 1.5% in the morning trades followed by IT, Auto and Teck.Meanwhile, for the second consecutive day, Power, Realty and Metal has opened in the red.

Tata Motors up nearly 2% is the top gainer on the Sensex followed by Wipro, ONGC,Tata Steel, Reliance Industries, TCS and Infosys gaining 1% each.

The market breadth is positive.Of the total 1840 stocks traded, 1238 stocks have advanced while 545 have declined.

Tata Power down nearly 1% is the top losers on the Sensex. Hindustan Unilever, Larsen & Toubro, State Bank of India,NTPC and Bharti Airtel shedding 0.1% -0.5% round off the losers list.
