The Sensex continues to hold gains inspite of the May inflation which is at 10.16%. The Sensex is now at 17,237, up 172 points and the NSE Nifty is at 5,165, up 45 points.
IT stocks like Infosys and Wipro have advanced 3% each to Rs 2,707 and Rs 663, respectively on the BSE. The other major gainers are Hindalco Industries, Tata Steel, Sterlite and HDFC, up 1.5% each on the BSE.
The other prominent gainers are TCS, ICICI Bank, HDFC Bank, Jindal Steel and Reliance Industries, up 1% each.
Bharti Airtel is down 3% at Rs 267. The other losers are Jaiprakash Associates, Maruti, Tata Motors and BHEL are down 0.5% each.
The market breadth is positive, out of 2,714 shares traded, 1,782 have advanced and 848 have declined so far on the BSE.
The BSE midcap and the smallcap indices are up 1% each.
Cox Kings and Akzoindia have advanced 6% each on the midcap index. Glodyne Tech and Balaji Telefilms have surged 14% each on the smallcap index.
Among the sectoral indices, IT index has advanced 2% while healthcare has slipped 0.5% on the BSE.
