The markets opened on a flat note at 16,830, down five points, amid lack of any clear cues from the global markets. The Asian markets are all trading on a flat note after US markets too ended without any significant changes.
The Sensex is now at 16,792, down 43 points. The NSE Nifty is 18 points down at 5,041.
Among the Sensex-30 stocks, Tata Power and TCS have slipped 2% each to Rs 1,293 and Rs 731, respectively. Hindalco Industries, Sterlite Industries and Infosys are down 1% each.
Larsen & Toubro has added 2% to Rs 1,642. It is followed by Bharti Airtel and Reliance Communications, up 1% each.
The market breadth is positive, out of 1,539 shares traded, 1,006 have advanced and 479 have declined so far on the BSE.
