Markets move sideways

The markets continue its range bound movement for the second consecutive hour. The Sensex is at 18237, higher by 57 points and the Nifty is at 5477, up 14 points. The smallcap index is stable at 0.5% while the midcap index has inched ahead and is up 0.4% as compared to the benchmark index at 0.2%.

In the smallcap space, os the total 534 scrips traded, 328 scrips hve advanced while 182 have declined. The movers here are Sujana Towers up 15%, Entertainment Network adding 14% and MSP Steel gaining 10%. In the midcap index, 189 scips have advamced while 81 scrips have declined.The gainers in this space are Eicher Motors up 7% followed by Indusind Bank adding nearly 6% and Astrazeneca Pharma gaining nearly 5%.

Among the sectoral indices on the BSE, FMCG has extended its initial gains and is up 0.9% Oil & Gas has rebounded and is uo 0.1%. However, Teck and IT continues to be in the red. Heath Care index, on the other hand has pared some of its intial gains and is marginally positive at 0.07%.

The gainers on the Sensex are DLF (Rs 316) and ITC (Rs 162) up nearly 2% followed by ONGC (Rs 1295), SBI (Rs 2856) and Tata Steel (Rs 502) have added 1% each.

Sterlite (Rs 151) down nearly 1.5% is the top loser on the Sensex.Cipla (Rs 306) and Infosys (Rs 2753) down 0.7% each are the other significant losers. Market heavyweight RIL (Rs 966) has inched lower by 0.2%.

Market breadth continues to be positive. Of the total 2696 stocks traded on the BSE, 1482 have advanced while 1101 have declined.
